58 runners attended the first annual Green Bay Mile Wednesday night sponsored by the Green Bay Running Club on the Fox River Trail. Green Bay Mayor Jim Scmitt declared June 3 Running Day in Green Bay and sent the runners on their way after readng the official proclaimation.
The mens race was won by Luke Karbon in 4:34 and Benji Whetly took second in a time of 4:49. The womens race was won by Jennie Chadoir in 5:18 with Heather Tuttle taking second in 5:44.
In an event intended to attract Green Bay area residents to running, the Lavin family had three members competing as mom Mary Sue, son Charlie and daughter Ellen ran the trail.
Plans are underway to make the 2010 Green Bay Mile event bigger and better
